Textiles & Tea
Each week the Handweavers Guild of America, Inc. (HGA) hosts Textiles & Tea, a conversation with some of the most respected fiber artists in the field today. In our 45-minute discussion we focus on their artwork and their creative journey. We allow 15 minutes at the end of our conversation for questions from the audience. Textiles & Tea will take place every Tuesday at 4:00 PM (ET) and is broadcast via Zoom and Facebook Live. These broadcasts are free to view and open to all.
Schedule
Textiles & Tea takes place online every Tuesday, 4:00 - 5:00 PM ET. This program is supported through generous sponsorships and donations.

October 7, 2025: Deborah Zeitler
generously sponsored by Buenger Studios

Deborah Zeitler's adventure in fiber art began about 30 years ago with the impulsive purchase of a floor loom. She learned to weave from experienced weavers in Iowa City, joined the Iowa City Area Craft Guild, and began traveling to fiber meetings and craft schools. She learned dyeing, felting, Ply-Split Braiding, and shoe making. As a competitive person, Deborah began entering shows locally, regionally, and nationally. Her work has been exhibited at the Iowa State Fair, Small Expressions, Convergence®, Midwest Weavers and Spinners, various galleries, and most recently, the Renwick Museum of the Smithsonian. Deborah's primary fiber art interests are sewing garments from her handwoven fabric, making sneakers combining handwoven fabric and leather, and using Ply-Split Braiding to make small vessels.
October 14, 2025: Dani Ortman
generously sponsored by Halcyon Yarn

Dani Ortman is a Canadian handweaver whose contemporary textiles embody simplicity and grace. Emerging as a professional textile artist in 2015, her work has been exhibited throughout Canada and the USA. Dani’s journey began in 2007, when she first learned to weave, work with plant dyes, and spin her own yarn. From 2012 to 2022, she served as Editor, Vice President, and President of the national Guild of Canadian Handweavers, passionately supporting her community. Now weaving in Vienna, Austria, Dani produces small collections of scarves and textiles 1–2 times per year. Her work invites others to experience the precious commodity of handwoven cloth, crafted from fine tussah silk, organic cotton, European linen, and Canadian wool.

November 18, 2025: Andrea Blackmon
generously sponsored by Florida Tropical Weavers Guild

Andrea Blackmon has been involved in fiber arts from a very young age, constantly seeking opportunities to learn new skills and techniques. She learned to sew at the age of 10 and began making her own clothes a year later. Over time, she expanded her skills to include crochet, needlework, knitting, ceramics, beadwork, and quilting. Her weaving journey began when she acquired a loom during a storage closet clear-out at her job. Currently, Andrea teaches weaving and other fiber arts to a group of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Andrea's work has been featured in notable publications such as Inspired by the Beatles: An Art Quilt Challenge by Donna DeSoto and Eight Shafts: Beyond the Beginning, edited by Laurie Knapp Autio. Additionally, her artwork has been displayed in several galleries, including the Del Ray Artisans' Gallery, The Arts Center in Orange, and the Freeborn County Arts Initiative.
November 25, 2025: Patti Barker
generously sponsored by Gainesville Handweavers Guild
Patti Barker is an award-winning felt-wear designer, teacher, and author. She earned a BA degree in studio art with a concentration in fiber at Western Washington University. Patti's early fascination with fabric and fashion came from her seamstress mother. You might say fiber art is bound into her DNA. Her felting journey began in 2007 with a study of felted simulated skins, skin as a protective covering, and as an identifier. All the while, she was intrigued with the way wearable art transforms its wearer.

Guest Recommendations for Textiles & Tea
The Handweavers Guild of America, Inc. (HGA) seeks emerging and established fiber artists with a focus on weaving for our weekly interview series, Textiles & Tea. In advance of the interview, accepted artists will attend one planning meeting (approximately 30 minutes). Interviews take place on Tuesdays at 4:00 PM Eastern Time and last for one hour. All interviews take place on Zoom and as such participating artists are required to participate from a location that has stable internet, good lighting, clear microphone, and no disruptions.
HGA is always looking for new artists for our program. If you have a recommendation, please click here to complete our form.
