Textiles & Tea
Each week the Handweavers Guild of America, Inc. (HGA) hosts Textiles & Tea, a conversation with some of the most respected fiber artists in the field today. In our 45-minute discussion we focus on their artwork and their creative journey. We allow 15 minutes at the end of our conversation for questions from the audience. Textiles & Tea will take place every Tuesday at 4:00 PM (ET) and is broadcast via Zoom and Facebook Live. These broadcasts are free to view and open to all.
Schedule
Textiles & Tea takes place online every Tuesday, 4:00 - 5:00 PM ET. This program is supported through generous sponsorships and donations.
Click on the date for more information and to register.
Zoom allows up to 500 guests to view the program on the platform at any given time. The first 500 to log in will be able to access the program; registrants over that amount (uncommon) will still receive a link to watch the recording. April 7, 2026: Stephen Tornero
with guest host, Erika Hewston
generously sponsored by Crajan by Ron Janish

Stephen Tornero is an artist and educator based in Canton, Ohio. While pursuing a Master’s degree in Art Education at Kent State University, he discovered weaving and developed a deep connection to the medium. Textiles offered him a rich visual language—one that brings together vibrant color, texture, pattern, and transparency in ways he had not found in other media. Tornero teaches visual art and fashion design to middle school students in his hometown. Although his teaching and studio practices are distinct, he believes they actively inform and strengthen one another. In his studio, Tornero weaves yarns he dyes himself alongside nontraditional materials, transforming them into dynamic textile works. His dedication to arts education has earned him multiple service awards, and his work has been exhibited in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
April 14, 2026: Emerson Croft
with guest host, Erika Hewston
generously sponsored by Grace Tully

Emerson Croft is a craftsperson and educator based in Berea, Kentucky. They hold a B.A. from Berea College, where they studied biology and sociology. Their background in the natural and social sciences informs their personal work, which centers on themes of community, human nature, and humor. Croft serves as the Weaving Manager at Berea College Student Craft, supervising a production studio staffed by undergraduate students. Primarily a fiber artist, their practice focuses on weaving and quilting, with additional interests in woodworking, bookbinding, and songwriting, which they incorporate into their work whenever possible.
April 21, 2026: Kira Keck
generously sponsored by Crajan by Ron Janish
Kira Keck is an artist with an intense love for color and pattern, working primarily in weaving, embroidery, and drawing. Keck earned a BFA in Fiber from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Upon graduation, they were awarded a Windgate–Lamar Fellowship, which enabled them to explore weaving pedagogy and establish a studio practice. During this time, they attended several craft and folk schools, including Vävstuga, a Swedish weaving school in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts. Keck earned their MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art, where they explored the possibilities of queer interiors—and spent a great deal of time thinking about towels. They currently live and work in southeast Michigan with their romantic partner and artistic collaborator, and a tiny dog.
April 28, 2026: Sebastien Courty
generously sponsored by Becky Flax

Sebastien Courty is an internationally recognized, award-winning artist whose studio practice is dedicated to sustainability and the exploration of multiculturalism. Based in New York since 2015, he has redefined traditional textile craftsmanship—including hand weaving and thread drawing—to create innovative public art installations and private commissions. Through permanent, textile-based works that extend beyond fiber, Courty weaves cultural narratives exploring unity, diversity, and human connection. By incorporating recycled elements such as rubber and precious metals, his practice positions itself at the forefront of contemporary art.

Guest Recommendations for Textiles & Tea
The Handweavers Guild of America, Inc. (HGA) seeks emerging and established fiber artists with a focus on weaving for our weekly interview series, Textiles & Tea. Artists are required to have an online presence and should be able to produce a headshot and a brief bio for marketing purposes. In advance of the interview, accepted artists will attend one planning meeting (approximately 30 minutes). Interviews take place on Tuesdays at 4:00 PM Eastern Time and last for one hour. All interviews take place on Zoom and as such participating artists are required to participate from a location that has stable internet, good lighting, clear microphone, and no disruptions.
HGA is always looking for new artists for our program. If you have a recommendation, please click here to complete our form.
