Panel: Busting the Weaving Myths

sponsored by Treenway Silks

Panelists: Patsy Zawistoski, Tegan Frisino, and Molly Elkind

Break free from the "rules" of weaving (and spinning). Join our panel of weaving enthusiasts, experts, and innovators as we unravel the myths that have shaped the fiber community. Who says you can't use handspun singles as warp? And what is the maximum number of floats a pattern can contain? Have you been limiting yourself to a method that may not be right for your weaving practice? Come prepared to engage, question, and broaden your perspective on why we do things the way we do.

Panel: Appropriation vs Appreciation

sponsored by MidAtlantic Fiber Association

Panelists: Venancio Aragon, John Marshall, and Maren Beck

Join us as we discuss the complex interplay between appropriation and appreciation in the world of spinning and weaving. Our panel of experts will navigate the fine line between embracing diverse influences and respecting cultural traditions. Bring your questions about responsible and respectful use of cultural motifs, techniques, and materials. Discover how we can celebrate the beauty of global textiles while fostering an ethical and inclusive community of craftspeople.

Panel: Preservation of Weaving History

Panelists: Florence Feldman-Wood, Marina Loew, Marjie Thompson

Though weaving is an ancient art, it's not a dying one. Our panelists explore how we can maintain past knowledge and carry it into the future. Join us as we discuss what is at risk of being lost and the ways in which we can ensure the survival of this knowledge.
